Everyone has to start somewhere.....

I've been debating starting a blog for a while now but I've always held off.  Reading so many entries everyday made me realise the amazing talent there is in Ireland blogging about health, food, politics,beauty, lifestyle and more.  A big thing that kept putting me off was I couldn't see myself fitting into any category specifically.  A personal blog hmmm, while that's ok, there still needs to be some degree of theme.  Then after quite some time thinking about it, I had an idea.  I've recently just moved back to Mayo (where I grew up) after seven years in Dublin and am discovering or rediscovering so many amazing things about the West that I never appreciated before.  So I decided to set up a blog looking at activity and features from the West.

I googled my name (as you do) to get an idea for names and well apparently Helen means 'Shining Light' so I'm happy to have a little bit of me in the title too.  I ran a weight loss and nutrition class for over a year before and am quite good at adapting recipes to be healthier so you may see a bit of that thrown in.  I love beauty and am becoming addicted to the Irish beauty blogs which have amazing tips and advice.  I'm also a foodie and if I had more money would be out for dinner much more often.  I know 2014 is going to be a better year for me and my partner and we plan on increasing our social life so I figure why not discover it with other people and blog about it.

I'm Mayo based but live close to the border of Roscommon and Sligo.  I frequently visit Galway to meet friends and sometimes Clare.  Leitrim is near where I work so I hope to do as equal coverage for the counties as I can for different events.  I would love to feature activities happening weekly in different areas and may start running an events guide once it's up and running.  It depends if there's an interest for it so please give me feedback and comments on what you would be interested in seeing or hearing about.  Also this is intended for both visitors and local people so don't feel you can't give feedback if you're not from the West.
